What a pressure gauge does

A pressure gauge gives you a local reading of pressure at the point of measurement. Digital gauges use a sensor and display so you can read resolution clearly, switch units, and (on many models) log data or send an output — useful for leak checks, calibration work, and process checks where an analog dial is hard to resolve.

Gauge, absolute, and differential

• Gauge pressure is referenced to atmosphere (most process readings).
• Absolute pressure is referenced to vacuum (includes atmospheric effects).
• Differential pressure compares two ports (filters, flow elements, DP tests).

Match the sensor type and range to the job; do not rely on a gauge past its rated pressure.

Choosing a digital gauge

• Range and accuracy — pick a range that covers the work with margin; tighter accuracy costs more and may need a piston/deadweight reference for cal.
• Output / logging — needed when you record as-found/as-left data or feed a recorder.
• Environment — intrinsically safe, weather sealing, and media compatibility when the process demands it.
• Process connection — NPT, sanitary, or quick-test adapters so the gauge connects cleanly to the UUT or process.

Digital high pressure gauges

For hydraulic and high-pressure test work, the Additel 681A digital pressure gauge is offered in gauge ranges up to 60,000 psi (4,200 bar). Per the Additel datasheet, accuracy by range is:

• up to 15,000 psi: 0.01%, 0.02% or 0.05% FS, or 0.1% of reading
• 20,000 to 40,000 psi: 0.05% FS (0.1% option)
• 50,000 and 60,000 psi: 0.1% FS (0.2% option)

For a digital absolute pressure gauge, choose the Additel 685 or 686. Each has a built-in barometer, so one unit reads gauge, absolute and barometric pressure.

What is the highest-pressure digital gauge you carry?
